Neiksans Rallysport: Developing Rally Prototypes with X Shift Sequential Gearboxes

See how Neiksans Rallysport uses X Shift sequential gearboxes in their rally prototypes. From improved shift speed and precision to enhanced driving confidence, learn how X Shift gearboxes elevate performance and reliability on and off the track. ✔️

At X Shift Gearboxes, we work closely with teams who push their cars hard in competitive environments. One of those teams is Neiksans Rallysport, who rely on X Shift sequential gearboxes across their rally prototypes.

We spoke with Maris Neikšāns about their experience, development philosophy, and plans for the future.

Experience with X Shift

Our experience with the X Shift gearbox has been very positive. We use X Shift gearboxes in all of our built prototype rally cars because we trust their reliability, precision, and performance. They have proven to be consistent in both testing and race conditions, which gives us strong confidence when pushing the car to the limit.

Key performance differences vs. the competition

The biggest improvements are shift speed and precision. Gear changes feel smoother and more predictable, which improves stability under braking and traction on corner exit. It also reduces workload, because I can fully trust the gearbox and focus more on driving.

Fit with driving style and setup

The gearbox suits my driving style very well. I like to be aggressive on downshifts and precise on throttle, and the gearbox responds instantly and cleanly.

We have also optimized the final drive and gear ratios to match the engine’s power curve, which has delivered very strong results. It works perfectly with our current setup and gives me even more confidence to push.

Plans for the car and the season

This new Toyota GR Yaris NRC will be shipped to Africa, where it will compete in a national championship. Our goal is to continue developing the car throughout the season, improve consistency, and aim for strong results while maximizing every event and progressing step by step.

In the coming weeks, we will also begin building another Toyota GR Yaris NRC rally prototype, which will be equipped with an X Shift sequential gearbox as well.

Team strengths and achievements

Our biggest strength is teamwork — communication is strong, everyone is fully committed, and we are constantly improving.

Since 2018, when we built our first Ford Fiesta MK7 NRC prototype, we have made huge progress. Our cars have become much more advanced and are now close in concept and performance to Rally2 cars.

We have since developed the Ford Fiesta MK8 model, and this year finalized the Toyota GR Yaris NRC rally prototype. We are very proud of how far both the team and the technology have come in a relatively short time.

Looking ahead

We see the team continuing to grow both technically and internationally. Many of the cars we build are exported to Africa, where they compete in national championships and regularly fight for victories, which strongly validates our work.

We will continue developing new models and focus heavily on after-sales support, ensuring our customers can compete successfully.

Impact on driving

The X Shift gearbox has allowed me to be more confident and more precise. I can brake later, shift more aggressively, and focus more on driving lines and race craft instead of worrying about mechanical limits.

It has clearly helped unlock more performance from the car.
