GR Yaris Cup in Italy

The last weekend in June was rounded off with our team visiting the mountain rally in San Martino di Castrozza (Italy), where we were invited by T-racing. This team is the promoter of the GR Yaris Cup category in Italy, which runs under the guaranty of Gazoo Racing Italy. The race was the third of six events to be run in this category in 2023. The entire GR Yaris Cup has been running in Italy for the third year.

Toyota GR Yaris Cup with X Shift Gearboxes

A total of 12 crews with Toyota GR Yaris vehicles entered the GR Yaris Rally Cup, equipped with sequential gearboxes from our company X Shift Gearboxes. The competition is becoming a very prestigious event and attracts both young drivers starting out in the 4WD car category, as well as experienced drivers competing against and sometimes defeating cars in the higher R5 and Rally2 categories.

San Martino di Castrozza

Preparations have been in full swing since Thursday. For the competitors of the Cup a very standard facility was created to support the drivers and to please the eye of the fans, which underlined the high level and professionalism of the whole event. All Cup crews were in a common zone, which added to the spectator appeal and clarity of the facilities. The following day, however, showed how changeable the weather can be in the Italian Dolomites. During the crews' shakedown, strong winds and rain alternated, making it difficult for the teams to prepare for the following race. Friday evening was then rounded off with a very interesting night stage, which goes through the narrow and steep streets of the town of San Martino di Castrozza itself. A great spectacle, sound of roaring engines and the flat-shift exhaust blasts towards the end was highlighted by a large firework display.

The following day, six special stages with a total length of 99 km awaited to the competitors. However, this day was accompanied by very pleasant sunny weather, which encouraged the competitors to great battles. These were very difficult technical sections on narrow mountain roads, which tested not only the crews' abilities, but also the agility and agility of the small GR Yaris, which could take advantage of the speed of the X Shift Gearboxes' sequential gearbox. Not only thanks to this, the crews were able to compete with the race specials from the higher rally categories. The overall winner of the Italian GR Yaris Rally Cup held in San Martino di Castrozza was the Di Giovanni - Colapietro crew.
